Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to provide to qualify for this offer?
In order to qualify, please fill out the application. Your participation is dependent on the number of applicants we receive, and the investors we have on the panel each episode. For example, if investors on the panel are focused on Series A investments at $5MM, while you are focused on raising a seed round at $750,000, then you may not be selected for that particular episode.
What do you need to get started?
A one page summary of your investment round, and a prepared 10 minute presentation.
What are some best practices for putting together an investment one-pager and deck?
1. A background on your company: where you came from, what you do, how the idea came about, and where you stand today.
2. How many team members.
3. Why there’s a need in the market for your product.
4. How much you’re looking to raise.
5. What you’d use the capital for.
6. What differentiates you from the competition?
7. Stats: your revenues (with projections), reviews, return rate, average order value, returning customer rate, order numbers, etc.
How long should my presentation be?
Your presentation should be no longer than 10 minutes long, with 10 minutes for panel questioning.
How much investment should you ask for?
It depends - some companies look to raise $500,000, while others might look to raise $5M. You’ll need to have a plan for how you would use the capital to justify your ask.
How much equity should you part with?
It depends - keep in mind that with each round you raise, you further dilute current shareholders, including yourself as a founder.
How much involvement will the VC or PE firm have in your business?
It depends - PE firms will often invest with a majority stake in companies, addressing issues with some aspects of operational efficiency. Therefore, they are focused on improving those inefficiencies to then make the business profitable. VC firms, on the other hand, will often look to invest with less of a stake in high growth potential companies, providing capital for companies to use in a variety of ways.
