How to Cancel your Magento Store and What Are the Alternatives

If you realize Magento isn’t the right choice for you, grab this tutorial to learn how to cancel your Magento store. You’ll also discover 3 better Magento alternatives that will fulfill your needs.

But before that, let’s cover some basics.

Magento global, website, store, and store view

Every Magento installation has a hierarchy of website, store, and store view. Regarding Magento 2, it has an additional level called Global.

  • The Global level allows you to set 3 options (i.e., stock, price, and buyers) that will be the same for all stores.
  • With one Magento base, you can design several websites. Each website can have its own IP address and domain.
  • Every website can have multiple stores, each with its own main menu. All stores can include different products and category structures but share the same checkout and admin.
  • For every store, you can create multiple store views with different languages, currencies, and/or product prices. All store views have the same categories.

The following tutorial will show you how to cancel a Magento store view.

How to delete a Magento store view

Before deleting a Magento store, ensure you export credit memos and back up all other data. Then, do as follows:

Step 1:  Log in to your Magento 1 or 2 backend. Click Stores from the left menu > Settings > All Stores

Step 2: Click a store that includes the store view you want to delete.

If the store view you want to delete (for example, the Layout 1 store view) is currently set as the Default Store View, you can’t delete it. To make that possible, you have to select another store view (for example, the Layout 2 store view) as the Default Store View.

Then, press the Save Store button, reindex, and clear the Magento cache.

Step 3: Once the Layout 1 store view isn’t the Default Store View, you’ll see the Delete Store View button appear. Click the button to delete the Layout 1 store view.

That’s it! You don’t need to log in to phpmyadmin or do anything with JavaScript.
